Meta Shut Down Eight Years of Business Overnight — And I’m Still Fighting to Get It Back
By Kayla Moon
On February 3, 2026, Meta disabled not just one of my accounts — but every account connected to me and my business. In an instant, years of work, customer relationships, and community building disappeared.
Without warning, without a meaningful explanation, and without any opportunity to resolve the issue beforehand, Meta made a decision that changed my business overnight.
I’ve been building businesses for eight years. Before that, my personal social media accounts dated back to my college years — 2007 and 2008. Those accounts documented a significant portion of my life, my relationships, my business journey, and the growth of our company.
Then suddenly, it was all gone.
What Triggered It?
From everything I’ve been able to determine, the issue appears to have originated from a post promoting the operating hours of our Appleton location under our original @HappyTrailsMed handle.
At the time, we were trying to navigate difficult economic conditions. We had relocated the store the previous year in an effort to reduce costs and improve revenue. Like many small businesses across America, we were doing everything possible to adapt and survive.
Instead of receiving support, our entire digital presence was erased.
To this day, I have not received a clear explanation for why this happened.
Months of Silence
Since February, I have exhausted nearly every avenue available to me.
- Contacted Meta support repeatedly
- Filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau
- Contacted state and local officials
- Submitted reports to the California Attorney General’s office
- Followed every appeal process available to me
And yet, here we are.
Today is June 17, 2026. More than four months later, many of my accounts remain inaccessible.
What’s even more frustrating is that multiple Meta representatives I’ve spoken with have told me they don’t understand why the accounts were disabled in the first place.
Think about that for a moment.
The people responsible for reviewing these situations can’t explain what happened, yet the consequences continue to impact my business every single day.
Starting Over From Scratch
Because I had no access to my existing accounts, I was forced to start over.
Imagine spending years building a community, creating content, earning trust, and developing relationships with customers — only to wake up one morning and discover it’s all gone.
One of the accounts was eventually restored, but only after enough followers reported my newly created account as an impersonation account.
That’s right.
The system that disabled me eventually helped prove I was me.
It would almost be funny if it weren’t causing so much damage.
The Cost to Small Business
For many people, social media is entertainment.
For small businesses, it’s infrastructure.
- Customer communication
- Marketing
- Education
- Trust
- Visibility
When a platform as large as Meta removes that infrastructure overnight, the impact is immediate and severe.
Revenue declines. Customer communication suffers. Growth slows. Confusion spreads.
Meanwhile, the business owner is left trying to navigate an automated system that often provides little transparency and even less accountability.
We Are a Legal Botanical Company
Let me be clear:
Happy Trails Medicinals operates within the law.
We are a hemp-derived botanical company. Our products are legal. We serve customers nationwide and comply with applicable regulations.
Yet despite our efforts to operate responsibly, we continue to face challenges from platforms that often struggle to distinguish between legitimate businesses and prohibited activity.
Adapting and Moving Forward
Never build your business entirely on someone else’s platform.
When one door closed, we pivoted.
Today, we are actively growing across multiple social media platforms. We are expanding our content, strengthening our email marketing, improving our website, and creating direct relationships with our community that cannot be taken away by a single platform decision.
We’re becoming more resilient. More diversified. More independent.
To Our Community
If you’ve followed us through this journey, thank you.
If you’ve shared our content, reported impersonation accounts, joined our email list, or simply continued supporting us despite the confusion, we are deeply grateful.
This experience has tested us. But it hasn’t stopped us.
Happy Trails Medicinals was built on the belief that people deserve access to education, natural wellness options, and the freedom to make informed decisions about their health.
That mission remains unchanged.
The accounts may have been shut down. But our voice has not.
